ENGIE and European Energy have partnered to develop a 150 MW renewable hydrogen facility in Denmark that will support industrial decarbonisation and future hydrogen exports.

ENGIE and European Energy have signed an agreement to jointly develop a large-scale renewable hydrogen project in Aabenraa Municipality, Denmark.

The project will feature an electrolyser with a capacity of up to 150 MW and will be connected to the planned Danish-German Hydrogen Backbone infrastructure. The facility will be located near an industrial-scale e-methanol plant owned by Mitsui & Co. and European Energy.

Under the agreement, ENGIE will secure marketing rights for more than 20,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually. Commercial operations are expected to align with the commissioning of Denmark’s hydrogen backbone infrastructure around 2030.

The project is expected to support industrial and mobility applications in Germany while contributing to the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors across Europe.
