Oswal Pumps has secured a ₹78 crore order to deploy 20 MW of residential rooftop solar across 18,089 consumer sites in Bihar under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The latest contract takes the company’s total secured rooftop solar capacity under the programme in Bihar to 83 MW.
Oswal Pumps Limited has added another 20 MW of residential rooftop solar capacity to its Bihar portfolio, securing an order valued at approximately ₹78 crore under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The project will cover 18,089 consumer locations across the Darbhanga Circle and further expands the company’s participation in India’s distributed solar market.
The contract has been awarded by North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) and will involve the deployment of grid-connected rooftop solar systems for residential electricity consumers. The project forms part of the government’s broader effort to increase household-level solar generation and expand decentralised renewable energy adoption.
Oswal Pumps will manage the project across its entire implementation cycle. Its responsibilities will include design and engineering, equipment procurement and supply, installation and commissioning, along with project financing and the subsequent operation and maintenance of the systems.
The installations will be delivered through a CAPEX-plus-RESCO model, combining the initial development and installation of the systems with a longer-term renewable energy service arrangement. Beyond the ₹78 crore installation component, Oswal Pumps expects the project to generate approximately ₹67 crore in energy-supply revenue over 10 years, creating a total potential revenue opportunity of around ₹145 crore.
The residential systems are expected to provide each participating household with approximately 15,000 units of solar electricity over the 10-year contract period. By generating power closer to the point of consumption, the installations are expected to help households reduce their dependence on conventional grid electricity while increasing the use of renewable power.
The latest award also strengthens Oswal Pumps’ existing presence under the PM Surya Ghar programme in Bihar. Prior contracts totalling 63 MW cover 57,492 consumer installations across the Motihari, Saharsa and Ara circles, with projects awarded by NBPDCL and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited.
Following the latest contract, Oswal Pumps’ total rooftop solar capacity secured under the PM Surya Ghar programme in Bihar will reach 83 MW, covering more than 75,000 consumer sites across its awarded projects. The expansion represents a further move by the company to broaden its renewable energy business beyond its established activities in the PM-KUSUM segment.
The 20 MW project is scheduled for completion within nine months of execution of the power purchase agreement. Its implementation is expected to add momentum to Bihar’s residential rooftop solar deployment while supporting the national objective of increasing household participation in distributed renewable energy.
The order also highlights the expanding role of RESCO and hybrid financing models in accelerating residential rooftop solar adoption. By combining project execution, financing and long-term operations, such models can reduce upfront barriers for consumers and enable larger-scale deployment across multiple residential locations.
