The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the first phase of YamnaCo’s proposed green ammonia project near Krishnapatnam Port. The export-oriented clean energy project will support the state’s ambitions to become a major hub for green hydrogen and ammonia production.

YamnaCo Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary YamnaCo India Private Limited, has received approval from the Andhra Pradesh cabinet for the first phase of its proposed green ammonia project in the state.

The project is planned to be developed in two phases with a total proposed production capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia.

The approved first phase will have a production capacity of 0.5 MTPA and is expected to attract investment of nearly $1 billion.

As part of the approval, the Andhra Pradesh government has agreed to allocate land for the project in Chillakur and Kota Mandal in Tirupati district, near Krishnapatnam Port.

The facility is being planned as an export-oriented clean energy project and will receive incentives under the state’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy. These include capital subsidies, tax benefits, and support for grid connectivity infrastructure.

The approval marks another significant step in Andhra Pradesh’s efforts to position itself as a major hub for green hydrogen and green ammonia production, amid rising global demand for low-carbon industrial fuels and export-oriented clean energy products.
