Suzlon has received the first commercial order for its new 5 MW S175 wind turbine, with Sunsure Energy awarding a 105 MW wind project in Karnataka.

Suzlon Group has secured the first commercial order for its newly launched S175 (5.0 MW) wind turbine from independent power producer Sunsure Energy. The 105 MW contract comes just two weeks after the company unveiled the S175, which it describes as India’s tallest and most powerful wind turbine.

Under the agreement, Suzlon will supply, erect, commission and maintain 21 S175 wind turbine generators (WTGs) for a wind power project in Bijapur, Karnataka. The latest order marks the third project awarded by Sunsure Energy to Suzlon in less than 14 months, taking the developer’s cumulative orders with the company to 400.8 MW.

The S175 turbine features a 175-metre rotor mounted on a 160-metre hybrid lattice tower. According to Suzlon, the advanced design enables access to stronger and more consistent wind resources, resulting in higher energy generation while expanding the number of sites suitable for wind power development.

Sunsure Energy said the new turbine has been designed to support firm and dispatchable renewable energy generation while facilitating integration with hybrid and round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy solutions.

Backed by Partners Group AG with an equity commitment of USD 400 million, Sunsure Energy currently operates 800 MW of renewable energy assets and has a development pipeline of 8.30 GW across Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Karnataka. The company aims to achieve 10 GW of operational renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Suzlon stated that it has installed 21.7 GW of wind energy capacity across 17 countries. The company reported revenues exceeding USD 1.75 billion in FY26 and has a market capitalisation of more than USD 7.5 billion.
