Repsol has commenced commercial operations at its 825 MW Pinnington Solar project in Texas, marking a major addition to the company’s renewable energy portfolio in the United States.
The project was developed by Repsol and engineered and constructed by Black & Veatch and its construction subsidiary, Overland Contracting Inc. (OCI). The solar facility includes nearly 1.5 million solar panels and is expected to avoid around 1 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
With the commissioning of the Pinnington Solar project and other operational solar assets, Repsol’s total renewable energy capacity in the US has now surpassed 2 GW.
Alongside its renewable expansion in the US, the company continues to strengthen its green hydrogen portfolio in Spain. In January 2026, Repsol announced plans to install a 100 MW electrolyser at the Petronor industrial complex in Muskiz, northern Spain. The project, expected to be commissioned in 2029, involves an investment of approximately €292 million and has been recognised by the European Commission as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI). It will receive €160 million in financial support from the Spanish government through the NextGenerationEU mechanism.
Earlier, in October 2025, Repsol and Enagás Renovable approved the construction of another 100 MW electrolyser at Repsol’s industrial complex in Cartagena, Spain. The project involves an investment of more than €300 million and has also been recognised as a strategic IPCEI initiative by the European Commission and the Government of Spain.
