Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy has secured a USD 560 million EPC contract to develop a 1 GW solar PV project with 600 MWh battery storage in Egypt.
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has secured a contract worth approximately USD 560 million to develop the West Minya Solar Power Project in Egypt’s Minya Governorate. The project will feature a 1,000 MWac solar photovoltaic (PV) plant integrated with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), making it one of Egypt’s largest utility-scale renewable energy projects.
The contract has been awarded through a Letter of Award to a 50:50 joint venture between SWREL and Hassan Allam Construction. The joint venture will undertake the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the project, covering the solar PV plant, battery energy storage infrastructure, grid interconnection facilities, transmission works and balance-of-plant systems.
According to SWREL, this is the third gigawatt-scale project secured by the company in the past nine months, reflecting the increasing scale of utility-scale renewable energy developments and the company’s expertise in delivering integrated clean energy infrastructure.
SWREL is a global renewable energy EPC company with a portfolio exceeding 27.3 GWp across utility-scale solar, floating solar, hybrid, battery energy storage and wind projects. The company also manages an operations and maintenance (O&M) portfolio of 13.5 GWp across 28 countries.
