POWERGRID has commissioned a transmission scheme to evacuate 3.5 GW of solar power from Andhra Pradesh, strengthening renewable energy integration and grid infrastructure.
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has commissioned a major transmission project in Andhra Pradesh designed to facilitate the evacuation of 3,500 MW of solar power from the state’s key renewable energy zones.
According to a regulatory filing submitted to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE, the transmission project achieved commercial operation on June 24, 2026. POWERGRID received the official Declaration of Commercial Operation (DOCO), dated June 25, 2026, via email on June 26.
The project, titled “Transmission Scheme for Solar Energy Zone in Ananthpuram (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW), Andhra Pradesh,” has been developed to strengthen the transmission network serving the two major solar generation clusters. The infrastructure is expected to improve the evacuation of renewable power and support the continued expansion of Andhra Pradesh’s solar energy capacity.
During the implementation phase, the project also underwent corporate restructuring. It was initially assigned to POWERGRID Ananthpuram Kurnool Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of POWERGRID. However, following an order issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on January 27, 2026, the subsidiary was merged with POWERGRID Khawda II-C Transmission Limited with effect from March 1, 2026.
The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The regulatory filing was signed by Anjana Luthra, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of POWERGRID.
The commissioning of the transmission scheme marks another milestone in strengthening India’s renewable energy transmission infrastructure and enabling the seamless integration of large-scale solar power into the national grid.
