The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has extended the exemption from ALMM List-II-compliant solar cells for net-metering and open access projects until December 31, 2026, while reaffirming that no further blanket extension will be granted.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the exemption from the use of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II-compliant solar photovoltaic (PV) cells for net-metering and open-access renewable energy projects until December 31, 2026.
The extension has been introduced to facilitate a smooth transition to the ALMM List-II framework for these project categories. Under the revised timeline, eligible projects commissioned on or before December 31, 2026, will not be required to use ALMM List-II-compliant solar PV cells.
The exemption was previously valid only until May 31, 2026. Projects commissioned after December 31, 2026, must comply with the ALMM List-II requirements for solar PV cells.
MNRE also clarified that it will not grant any blanket extension of the ALMM List-II implementation beyond the existing framework, reaffirming that the mandatory implementation for solar PV cells remains effective from June 1, 2026, except for the limited exemption granted to net-metering and open access projects.
Earlier in June 2026, the ministry issued guidelines for quantifying greenhouse gas emissions from off-site water withdrawal and treatment under India's Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme. The guidelines were introduced to support compliance with the Green Hydrogen Standard for India and align emissions accounting with the ISO 19870:2023 standard for green hydrogen certification.
