The projects aim to improve grid stability, strengthen energy security and support the country’s power sector reconstruction.
Saudi Arabian developer Mohammed Ahmed Al-Harfi has signed agreements to develop three utility-scale solar power projects with a combined capacity of 760 MW in Syria, supported by 1,077 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The agreements were signed with the Syrian Electricity Company for projects located in the Damascus Countryside region. The integrated battery storage systems will store excess solar generation and supply electricity during periods of high demand, helping improve grid stability and operational flexibility.
The projects form part of Syria’s broader strategy to rebuild and modernise its power sector through renewable energy deployment and foreign investment. The country has faced prolonged electricity shortages and infrastructure constraints, making large-scale renewable energy development a key component of its energy security and reconstruction efforts.
The latest agreements significantly expand Al-Harfi’s renewable energy portfolio in Syria. Earlier in 2026, the company signed an agreement to develop a 210 MW solar project integrated with an 827 MWh battery energy storage system, and the new projects substantially increase the scale of its planned investments.
Large-scale battery storage is expected to play a critical role in integrating solar generation into Syria’s electricity network by reducing intermittency, improving peak power availability and enhancing overall grid resilience.
The projects also reflect growing regional investment interest in Syria’s energy sector, with Saudi companies increasingly exploring opportunities in solar, wind, energy storage and broader power infrastructure development.
For Syria, the 760 MW solar portfolio is expected to expand renewable energy capacity, reduce reliance on conventional power generation and improve electricity availability for industrial, commercial and residential consumers.
The combination of utility-scale solar and battery storage is expected to strengthen the country’s power system while supporting the diversification of its energy mix and long-term energy transition objectives.
