Hinduja Group plans to invest ₹2,500 crore in Tamil Nadu across renewable energy, electric mobility, automotive and related sectors. The investment includes more than 200 MW of solar, wind and battery energy storage capacity and is expected to create around 500 jobs.

The Hinduja Group has announced plans to invest ₹2,500 crore in Tamil Nadu across renewable energy, electric mobility, automotive, financial services, energy, battery charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions, strengthening its presence in the state’s clean energy and emerging technology sectors.

A significant portion of the proposed investment will be directed towards renewable energy projects through Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited (HREPL). The company plans to develop more than 200 MW of renewable energy capacity across solar, wind and battery energy storage technologies.

HREPL is seeking land and grid connectivity support for the proposed projects across Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Coimbatore. These districts are located in Tamil Nadu’s resource-rich southern and western regions, which have significant potential for solar and wind power generation.

The investment commitment was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Hinduja Group and Guidance, Tamil Nadu’s investment promotion agency, during the Vetri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026. The proposed investment is expected to generate around 500 jobs across the various business activities covered by the commitment.

Battery energy storage forms an important component of the renewable energy plans, reflecting the growing need for flexible power infrastructure as solar and wind capacity expands. Integrating storage with renewable generation can help manage fluctuations in generation, improve power availability and support more reliable utilisation of clean electricity.

The group’s wider investment programme also includes electric mobility initiatives. OHM Global Mobility Limited plans to operationalise electric buses for public transport in Tamil Nadu and expand its mobility solutions value chain in the state. The group is also exploring opportunities across automotive, financial services, energy, battery charging infrastructure and digital mobility.

The latest commitment builds on the Hinduja Group’s existing presence in Tamil Nadu through businesses including Ashok Leyland, Gulf Oil India, Hinduja Leyland Finance, Hinduja Housing Finance, Switch Mobility, Ohm Mobility, Gro Digital and Hinduja Tech. The group had previously signed a ₹7,500 crore agreement with the Tamil Nadu government in 2025 focused on the state’s electric vehicle ecosystem.

Tamil Nadu has emerged as a major renewable energy and manufacturing hub, supported by its industrial base, substantial solar and wind resources and expanding electric mobility ecosystem. The Hinduja Group’s proposed investment is expected to strengthen the state’s clean energy infrastructure while creating opportunities across renewable generation, energy storage and sustainable transportation.

The planned development of more than 200 MW of renewable energy capacity, alongside investments in electric mobility and supporting infrastructure, highlights the growing convergence between clean power generation and transport electrification. The investment is expected to contribute to Tamil Nadu’s broader efforts to expand renewable energy capacity and strengthen its position in India’s energy and mobility transition.
