The installation is the country’s largest rooftop solar system and represents a significant step in the healthcare manufacturer’s efforts to increase its use of renewable energy across its operations.

The project was developed by Sunergise, which served as the renewable energy developer and EPC contractor. JA Solar supplied modules from its DeepBlue series for the installation, which spans multiple buildings across Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s Auckland campus.

The 5.3 MWp system is expected to generate more than 6,600 MWh of electricity annually. The renewable power will support the facility’s electricity requirements, helping the manufacturer reduce its reliance on conventional grid electricity and increase the share of clean energy used in its operations.

The project is expected to avoid approximately 486 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. By generating electricity directly at the manufacturing site, the rooftop installation also makes use of existing building infrastructure while reducing the need for additional land for renewable energy development.

The scale of the project marks a significant expansion of New Zealand’s commercial and industrial rooftop solar market. At 5.3 MWp, the installation is more than twice the size of the country’s previous largest rooftop solar project, demonstrating the potential for large industrial facilities to integrate on-site renewable generation.

For Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, the project supports its broader sustainability objectives while providing an additional source of electricity for its manufacturing operations. Large-scale rooftop solar can help energy-intensive businesses manage electricity costs, reduce exposure to grid price fluctuations and progress towards corporate emissions reduction targets.
